The People Behind the Recognition
Some names are already part of music history. Others are just beginning to write theirs. Here is why they caught the attention of Honky Tonk Music Association.
Will Hitchell & THE VINTAGE EXPLOSION
From Glasgow, Scotland, Will Hitchell and THE VINTAGE EXPLOSION have become one of the clearest examples of what HTMA means by bringing yesterday’s music forward without turning it into imitation. Hitchell’s voice carries the warmth and character of classic records, while the band gives soul, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, country and pop a live energy that feels completely present.
- 2026 Entertainer of the Year — Will Hitchell
- 2026 Band of the Year — THE VINTAGE EXPLOSION
- 2026 Affinity Radio Lifetime Award — THE VINTAGE EXPLOSION
Jools Holland & His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra
Jools Holland has spent decades doing something HTMA deeply values: putting real musicians in front of an audience and letting the music breathe. Together with His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra and the long-running television legacy of Later… with Jools Holland, he represents musicianship, broadcasting and live performance all in one unmistakably British music institution.
- 2026 Affinity Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Music, Television & Entertainment
- 2026 Royal International Orchestra of Excellence Award
- 2026 International Music Legacy Television Award
Travis Tritt
Travis Tritt never needed to fit neatly into anybody else’s version of country music. The Georgia-born singer built his career with grit, Southern rock muscle, unmistakable vocals and the confidence to stand his ground. HTMA also recognizes something beyond the stage: a long record of giving back, which is why his 2026 story reaches from outlaw country to the Heart of Honky Tonk.
- 2026 King of Honky Tonk Music
- 2026 Best All-Time Honky Tonk Outlaw Award
- 2026 Heart of Honky Tonk Award
Alan Jackson
Alan Jackson’s place here is about more than hit records. HTMA honors the Georgia songwriter and singer for standing up for country music when changing trends and industry pressure could have made it easier to simply go along. He stayed recognizably Alan Jackson — quiet, traditional and unwilling to let the heart of the music be pushed aside.
- 2026 Grandfather of Honky Tonk Lifetime Award
- 2026 King of Honky Tonk Music
Pam Tillis
Pam Tillis has always sounded like a diamond in the rough to HTMA — sophisticated, emotional and unmistakably her own. She honored the musical footsteps of her father, Mel Tillis, but her voice was never confined to one box. HTMA has long believed there was a natural pop dimension in her music that deserved to be heard alongside the country artist everyone already knew.
- 2026 Honorary Queen of Pop Music
- 2026 Honky Tonk Music Pioneer
Tayla Lynn
For HTMA, Tayla Lynn is personal. She is Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter, but what reaches beyond the family name is the way Loretta’s spirit seems to surface in Tayla’s voice, humor and presence. The laugh, the honesty, the faith and even the hard-earned resilience behind her story make her one of the most emotionally meaningful artists in this inaugural season.
- 2026 First Daughter Award
- 2026 Honky Tonk Horizon Award
- 2026 Sunshine Award
Colton Bowlin
Colton Bowlin arrived in the inaugural season with something every new artist hopes for: songs that kept showing up in the conversation. From “On My Way” to “Time For Sale” and his duet work with Kelsey Keith, his nominations show a young artist being noticed not for one isolated moment, but across songwriting, performance and new-artist categories.
- 2026 Honky Tonk Horizon Award
- 6 additional 2026 nominations
Tyler Reese Tritt
Tyler Reese Tritt grew up with country music in the family, but HTMA is interested in where her own voice can go. Her recognition crosses into pop and pop-rock, and the father-daughter performance with Travis Tritt shows both sides of her story at once: a family connection audiences know and an emerging artist still defining herself.
- 2026 Pop Horizon Award
- 2026 Best Father / Daughter Duet Award category winner
- 3 additional 2026 nominations
Makayla Renee
Makayla Renee is the kind of artist the Horizon program was built to find. Originally from Oklahoma and now building her life in Nashville, she comes across as an everyday young woman willing to put real emotion into a song. HTMA heard sincerity, vulnerability and storytelling in performances like “Don’t Mind Me” — the kind of honesty that cannot be manufactured.
- 2026 Honky Tonk Horizon Award
- 4 additional 2026 nominations
Roy Caudill
Roy Caudill’s 2026 story keeps circling back to one word: “Memory.” The Kentucky artist’s song earned attention in more than one category, while Roy himself also surfaced among the new-artist nominees. That combination is exactly what makes a Horizon story interesting — the artist and the song beginning to rise together.
- 2026 Honky Tonk Horizon Award
- 4 additional 2026 nominations
Daniel Wheeler
Daniel Wheeler brings faith into the Spotlight without separating it from country storytelling. His performance of “I Can’t Even Walk Without You Holding My Hand” and his songwriting recognition for “I Need You Lord” show why HTMA sees him as both a performer and a writer whose music comes from conviction rather than presentation.
- 2026 Honky Tonk Horizon Award
- 2026 Best New Gospel Songwriter Award
- 2026 Best Performance of a Country Gospel Song Award
Tanya Tucker
Country music would not be country music without Tanya Tucker. Her voice has always sounded lived-in, independent and impossible to confuse with anybody else’s. Through extraordinary highs, hard years and constant change around her, she endured without becoming a polished-down version of herself — and that is exactly why HTMA sees her as a First Lady, a Queen and a Pioneer.
- 2026 First Lady of Honky Tonk Music
- 2026 Queen of Honky Tonk Music
- 2026 Honky Tonk Music Pioneer
Reba McEntire
Reba McEntire became more than a country star because audiences learned to trust the woman inside the songs. Her music has carried heartbreak, humor, survival and strength through generations, and her work on television made that connection even more personal. HTMA sees a pioneer whose stories have helped women recognize their own resilience.
- 2026 Queen of Honky Tonk Music
- 2026 Honky Tonk Music Pioneer
Tre Twitty
Tre Twitty carries one of country music’s most recognizable family names as the grandson of Conway Twitty. But HTMA’s interest is not simply in ancestry. His work with Tayla Lynn has helped bring two legendary family histories onto the same stage while giving a new generation a living connection to music they may otherwise know only from old records.
- 2026 First Son Award
- 2026 Honky Tonk Horizon Award
Travis Yee
Known to many fans as the “Asian Country Singer,” Travis Yee has had to answer a question most country artists never face: whether someone who looks like him belongs in the music at all. He answered it by singing. From “Prove Em Wrong” to growing national attention, Travis represents exactly what the Horizon Award is supposed to find — authenticity strong enough to break through somebody else’s expectations.
- 2026 Honky Tonk Horizon Award
- 2 additional 2026 nominations
Emmy Russell
Emmy Russell carries Loretta Lynn’s family legacy, but her appeal is very different from simply recreating the past. There is a quiet, vulnerable quality in her delivery that reaches naturally toward pop while still carrying the emotional storytelling of the family she comes from. HTMA sees that tension between heritage and a new musical identity as part of what makes her worth watching.
- 2026 Pop Horizon Award
- 2 additional 2026 nominations
Bryan Touney
Bryan Touney caught HTMA’s attention in an unusual way: his name appears across new-artist categories that do not all sit inside the same musical box. Country, honky tonk and pop-rock consideration suggest an artist still revealing where he fits — or perhaps proving that he does not need to fit in only one place.
- 2026 Best New Artist Award Nominee
- 2026 Best New Honky Tonk Artist Award Nominee
- 2026 Best New Pop / Rock Artist Award Nominee
Lorrie Morgan
Lorrie Morgan grew up inside country music as the daughter of Grand Ole Opry star George Morgan, but she earned her own place with one of the genre’s most emotionally recognizable voices. There is elegance in her delivery, but there is also hurt, steel and lived experience — the qualities that make a country song stay with you after the record ends.
- 2026 Queen of Honky Tonk Music
- 2026 Honky Tonk Music Pioneer
Tracy Lawrence
Tracy Lawrence represents a kind of country career HTMA respects deeply: songs people remember, a sound that stayed rooted, and a willingness to use success to serve other people. His recognition as both a Pioneer and a Heart of Honky Tonk recipient reflects those two sides of him — the music and the man beyond the stage.
- 2026 Honky Tonk Music Pioneer
- 2026 Heart of Honky Tonk Award
Ron Haynes
Ron Haynes comes into the Spotlight from Arkansas with two very different kinds of recognition: a Horizon Award looking toward the future and the Kenny Rogers Award carrying the name of one of music’s great storytellers. Together they suggest exactly the balance HTMA looks for — something new that still understands what made the old songs matter.
- 2026 Kenny Rogers Award
- 2026 Honky Tonk Horizon Award
Willie Nelson
Willie Nelson built a career by following his own instincts when following the rules would have been easier. The voice, the phrasing, Trigger, the songs and the independence are all unmistakably Willie. HTMA’s Royal Golden Cowboy recognition honors an artist whose authenticity survived every trend around him.
- 2026 Royal Golden Cowboy Award
Doug Stone
Doug Stone came out of Georgia with the kind of voice that made a country ballad feel immediate and personal. His strongest records were never about spectacle; they lived or died on emotion. That directness is part of why HTMA includes him among the artists who helped carry traditional country through a changing era.
- 2026 Honky Tonk Music Pioneer
Lulu
Glasgow-born Lulu has been part of British popular music for more than six decades, moving through pop, soul, television and international performance without losing the personality that made audiences remember her in the first place. HTMA’s lifetime recognition celebrates not one era, but the endurance required to remain part of the conversation across generations.
- 2026 International Lifetime Achievement Award
The Great Jimmy Steele
The Great Jimmy Steele is the tenor saxophonist whose playing helps give THE VINTAGE EXPLOSION its live punch and old-school rhythm-and-blues color. In a season filled with singers and songs, HTMA wanted to make sure the musician inside the band was seen too. His award is a reminder that the sound audiences love is built by players.
- 2026 Musician of the Year
Georgette Jones
As the daughter of George Jones and Tammy Wynette, Georgette Jones was born into a country-music story almost too large for any one person to carry. What makes her interesting to HTMA is the humanity inside that legacy — a daughter preserving family history while still stepping to the microphone as herself.
- 2026 Honky Tonk Horizon Award
Grant Stott
Grant Stott represents the part of music history that happens on the other side of the microphone. Through BBC Radio Scotland, he has spent years connecting artists, songs and audiences, helping music become part of everyday life rather than something that exists only on a stage. HTMA recognizes broadcasting as part of the culture that keeps music alive.
- 2026 Excellence in Broadcasting Award

Every Recognition Begins with a Story
The award may be what brought the name to this page. The music, the life and the person behind it are why the story continues.
