Colton Bowlin
Colton Bowlin — Featured Performance
The performance selected for Colton Bowlin’s HTMA Spotlight introduces one of the emerging artists who repeatedly appeared across the Association’s inaugural 2026 nominations.
Songs from the Kentucky–Tennessee Line
Colton Bowlin’s music begins in a place where country music has never been something distant.
He grew up around the Kentucky–Tennessee state line, surrounded by the stories, work and music of rural Appalachian life.
One of the most important places in that story was his grandfather’s feed mill.
It was there that Bowlin heard the music and conversations of the people around him — stories from people who had worked, loved, lost, struggled and lived long enough to have something worth telling.
He began turning those observations into songs.
That connection between everyday life and songwriting is exactly what Honky Tonk Music Association looks for when recognizing emerging artists.
Old-fashioned storytelling.
Colton Bowlin’s 2026 HTMA record shows an artist being noticed across songwriting, performance, honky tonk music and new-artist categories at the same time.
Official 2026 HTMA Record
Colton Bowlin’s current record contains 7 total 2026 recognitions: 1 win and 6 nominations.
One song can earn recognition in more than one category: “Time for Sale” appears separately as a nominee for both the 2026 Best New Song Award and the 2026 Best New Honky Tonk Song Award.
More Than One Song Got Attention
What makes Colton Bowlin’s inaugural-season record particularly notable is that the recognition did not come from only one recording.
Grandpa’s Mill
Before Grandpa’s Mill was an album, it was a real place.
Bowlin’s grandfather operated a feed mill in Albany, Kentucky, close to the Tennessee line.
Bowlin grew up spending time there, hearing classic country music and listening to the stories told by the people who came through the mill.
Following his grandfather’s death and the eventual sale of the mill, those memories became part of a much larger songwriting project.
Grandpa’s Mill was released on March 13, 2026.
Bowlin wrote all twelve songs on the album himself.
The project was produced by David Ferguson and recorded at Chase Park Transduction in Athens, Georgia.
The stories were not.
The album became a way to preserve a place, a grandfather and the people whose stories helped shape Bowlin’s understanding of country music.

“Missed the Dance”
Colton Bowlin’s 2026 recognition also extends into collaboration.
Bowlin and Kelsey Keith are nominated together for the 2026 Best Honky Tonk Duet Award for “Missed the Dance.”
The song appears on Grandpa’s Mill and adds another dimension to a recognition record that already includes songwriting and individual-artist categories.
The duet nomination belongs jointly to Colton Bowlin & Kelsey Keith and remains separate from Bowlin’s individual Horizon Award.
Why Colton Bowlin Belongs in the Horizon
A Horizon Award is about more than being young or being new.
It is about showing enough artistic identity that people can begin to see where the road may lead.
In Colton Bowlin’s case, HTMA’s 2026 record already reaches across individual artistry, songwriting, honky-tonk music and duet performance.
Songs such as “On My Way” and “Time for Sale” did not simply put his name in one category.
They kept putting his name back into the conversation.
